The 2020 Sterling Collectables Victorian Cross is the 4th edition in our exclusive Sterling Christmas Cross Ornament series. The Victorian Cross takes its inspiration from the elaborate carvings of the era which typically featured high relief and heavy ornamentation that followed the Victorian philosophy that “more is more.” Stylized leaf and floral patterns along with intricate scroll and shell work were most popular during this time. The practice of using flowers in lieu of words to communicate heartfelt thoughts gained popularity during the Victorian Era. Known as Victorian Floriography, Zinnias became a favorite flower for this form of nonverbal communication and were used to express joy, love, friendship, endurance and remembrance. Rich dimensional detail and quality are evident throughout this original work of art that is sure to be a treasured heirloom for years to come. Made in New England by highly skilled silversmiths, this beautiful ornament would be a lovely addition to any Christmas tree or could be worn as an exquisite pendant.
